Pam’s visit to Minnesota

As everyone knows by now Pam enjoyed almost 3 weeks here visiting everyone in Minnesota from Fargo (ND) to Redwing. Here are some photo’s of her visit.

Before traveling north we had a short visit with Tara and Lance. Promises were made to keep in touch better.

Then off to my place. After getting settled somewhat we traveled north to Blackduck to visit with Dad and Jan at their new place. I am ashamed to say my camera didn’t leave the truck.

Pam, DJ and I got to spend 2 remarkably nice days at Tioga Beach.

Tuesday we grilled brats, hotdogs and some venison steaks. Dave did a great job!!

Then off to Fargo where Corey drove from Mott ND to spend a weekend with Pam and Shyla’s family. We met Shyla at Microsoft where she treated us to lunch. Wow! What a place to work!! I could get used to eating there anyway…Then back to Shyla’s.

Mom and Jim have been in their new place now for a few months and seem to be settling in well.

Weekend in Blackduck

This past Sunday part of the family traveled to Great Gramma and Grampa’s house to put in some fence posts. The weather was perfect and the mosquitoes didn’t eat too much. While it was harder work for the men the kids managed to have a ball doing things kids have been doing forever. Here are a few pictures of our day.

It was a good day! We got allot accomplished and had a great time doing it..plus yummy burgers on the grill and potato salad and well, we’ll be going back!!

THIS IS THE BLOG I SHOULD HAVE POSTED AFTER LAST WEEKEND IN FARGO.

Since I had a three day weekend, Dave, Barb and the boys and I went to Fargo to see Shyla and Raleigh and Leah and to go to the famous Rib Fest they have at the Fargo Dome every year. Here are some photo’s I took of our adventure!

This was the second day and it was about 40 degrees colder but we ate ribs and corn and deep fried oreos, deep fried cheese cake….oh my was it ever good. This got my son Dave and i talking about creating our own rib rub.

Another great time with family. We are so rich. What recession….This is priceless.

What a busy day!! I just went to work and when I found Dave had trimmed and fed all the apple trees…..

Tilled the garden and Asv’ed the driveway with some of the kid’s sand from their sand pile….

Ryan and Grampa V. had taken an old boat trailer….

took a cutting torch to it….

and some time around 9pm Grampa drove off with a new trailer for his 4-wheeler!!

And all I did were the dishes after coming home from work.

Pizza Party at Dave and Barb's

Sunday Dave, Ryan, Corey and I went over to Dave and barb's to make homemade pizza's. They turned out ok, but I should have made my own dough instead of buying the cheap our family dough in a can. Still living and learning I guess. It was great to see the kids. DJ had a friend over and we all got to see the deer in their back yard. I can see why people feed them, they are very interesting to watch.

Warping of the Loom

After much procrastination and excuses I can finally say I'm ready to make rugs!! Here is a picture documentation of the steps needed to warp the loom.

Secret Hiding Place

After 3 years and the need to get my loom warped so I can get going on some rugs, the door to the secret place under the stairs was unblocked. I can't even remember what was stored down there. Tyler was the first to ask if he could go in there. I thought well, it's a good opportunity to get some stuff out of there. A typewriter, the dress I went to Dave's sister Deb's wedding in, a giant 13 inch computer monitor and some other junk come out. Which made room for the boys. Armed with flashlights they entered.

Tyler came out and said someone had been writing on the walls in there. I remembered then that that used to be Shyla and Angies special fort. They would spend hours in there drawing pictures and writing boys names on the sheet rocked walls.

They spent the night in there. The boys can add their own thing to the walls if they want; I told them. They were very content to just read the walls. I did give them a nail and hammer to tack that piece of sheet rock up. Angie will always have a special place in our hearts and home even if it is under the stairs!

My Vacation!

My apologies for not blogging while away but Pam and I had computer issues which were repaired by Microsoft by phone when we got back to Pam's house. She has a great 17" laptop which I fell in love with!

My flight to Virginia was flawless. Duluth to Detroit to Norfolk. I will fly out of Duluth more often. It seems to not have as many issues as the Hibbing/msp connection.

Pam and I spent a few days at her house before hitting the road. This is the huge spider she had living in her driveway!

Nobody knew what kind of spider it was but it was very impressive. It made a web about 10feet across and the same tall every night and was gone by morning.

This was a tunnel through the Blue Ridge mountains.

This is in Pigeon Forge in Sevierville county where Dolly Parton grew up. This was our view off our balcony. There was a week long car show going on when we got there.

We went to the Dixie Stampede where we ate our meal without silverware and drank our tea out of a canning jar. We watched a reenactment of the battle between the north and south. Everything we saw was very pro-America and patriotic. It was very refreshing.

Next day we went to Dollywood. It's a theme park like Bush gardens. This was a mode of transportation. .50 a ride. We didn't drive the car for 3 days.

We went on all three roller coasters where we got a cd of us on the whole ride! We haven't figured out how to put it on the computer to share yet. We tried on and purchased sunglasses.

After Pigeon Forge we drove on to Nashville where we saw the Ryman theater, which is the original Grand Old Opry until 1974.

That's when the Opry you see on tv now was built.

We saw Lonestar live amongst others.

Anyone that knows me knows I'm not a country fan. Seeing and hearing it live was still awesome and everyone was great.

We also visited the Country Music Hall of Fame. Also Impressive!

Elvis Presley's solid gold piano and solid gold car.

Next day we went on a 3 hour cruise on the General Jackson riverboat.

We had a great meal while being entertained by the Peking Acrobates while the boat sailed down the Cumberland River.

We had a great time as we always do no matter when or where we go. I'm already looking forward to the next trip!

Vacation time!!!

It's that time again!! Tomorrow morning I will be on the earliest flight out of Duluth. That means we have to leave the house at 3am to get me on the 0608 flight to Michigan where I switch planes and leave for Norfolk. My flight arrives at 1154 ET. I will try and blog while I'm away including pictures. I will have my cell phone with me but I'm not sure if I will have service that's not roaming. I will be back in Minnesota on the 18th. Back to work the 19th.

Shyla, Josh and Raleigh came to visit for the weekend and boy did we have fun. Our plans to spend some time at the beach with the boys didn't pan out due to the weather but a good time was had anyway! The very large pile of sand was enjoyed by all the kids.

Good Morning every one! It looks like another gorgeous day ahead of us. Today is my last day off. Then back to work another 5 days. I hope everyone has as nice a weekend as I had this past weekend. This past weekend was my annual girls weekend at my good friend and co-workers house, Betsy. She lives near Sugar Lake. We had everything we could possibly want. Good food (of course). I have 2 new recipes I fell in love with. I will share them later.

Today Barb, DJ, Tyler & I went Strawberry picking at Luney Berries Srawberry farm just like we did last year. Only last year Shyla and Chelsea were with us. This year everything is a week late so last weekends plans to pick didn't work. Here are some pictures of our pickin' fun.

First of all, I want to thank all those who have served in the military, past and present. Many believe we should never have to have wars. In a perfect world I agree. But it seems there has always been wars. Why? Not because we want to fight. As long as there are bad people wanting to take things from good people there will be wars. Evil thrives when good people do nothing. I do believe we live in the greatest country in the world because good people chose to fight bad people. That gives me the freedom to write what I want, worship where I want, etc. Last year my family tried to have a picnic at Tioga Beach and because of other people being rude we decided not to try that again this year. Corey arrived home from Nebraska around noon Thursday. Shyla, Josh and Raleigh arrived shortly after. Here are some pictures of Grampa and Raleigh in the dump truck Grampa drives at work.

Dave and I try and get out fishing at least once a week. This was from last weekends little fishing trip to Pug Hole. It's a nice little lake off Highway 38. Dave used to take the kids fishing there when they were little. We didn't catch much but it sure was pretty.

I know, I know....It's been since Mother's Dad. Well now it's Fathers Day and I have much to share with everyone. Since Mothers Day I've been to Fargo to visit Raleigh, Josh and Shyla. It was fun as usual. This pas weekend Shyla and Raleigh came here to visit. It will be interesting to watch Raleigh and Sam grow up as cousins and being so close in age. Here are some pictures.

I'm almost embarrassed to say it...Shyla, Raleigh and me went to the beach for the first time this year. Isn't that terrible?!! And the water was so cold we only walked in the water. I took only a couple of pictures before my batteries gave up. Shyla has better ones on her camera.

Today was grand parents day at the Cohasset school. I spent time tin both Tyler and DJ's classrooms before going to the gym for a singing program, then coffee and cookies in the cafeteria. There was also a book fair going on so we of course had to buy some books. They were priced 2 for 1 so we couldn't resist.

I really had a great time with the two of them. We came back home for some mac-n-cheese.

Last weekend Shyla and I decided Copper needed a little trim. Get rid of the winter hair, so we bought some clippers and tried to trim her. We trimmed most of her main body but she was doing so well I hated to turn a good experience into a bad one so decided to make an appointment to have her finished up when I got home. This is the outboard motor Dad brought back with him from Oregon. It's a 1972 Evenrude 9 1/2 hp. Dave is fixing it up a bit and has enjoyed doing it. The parts he found for it are the original parts. They came from Seattle Wa.

While Dave has been working on the motor Ryan has been busy carving decoys. There is a decoy convention next weekend in Perham, MN.

It's 3:30 central time and I'm sure by now everyone is over stuffed and scratching their bellies. It's 30 degree's and sunny here. Originally we weren't going to do much since Shyla, Josh, Raleigh and Corey were missing but unexpectedly Corey showed up Friday night so it was decided. A Sunday dinner was planned. Then I found out Saturday morning Corey would be leaving Sunday morning so I put together Sundays dinner Saturday. I have to say it was great except for those that were missing. Dave, Barb and the boys came over after spending the day looking on all the local rinks for hockey pucks lost during the winter in the snowbank which are shrinking rapidly. And your wondering where the pictures are of everyone...not a shot was taken..I know... Anyway we had a great visit as usual, lots of stories told. Stories of work from all, travels from Corey, hunting past and hunting future of course. Lots of fishing tales and dreams. I always talk about the meal being the main focus of getting everyone together and I know that's part of it but it's more than that. Something the TV can't replace. I am very thankful for having the family I have. Health and Happiness to all. Here's to summer and lots of beach time with my grandsons!!!

Fun Week with Family!!

After spending a weekend with Josh, Shyla and Raleigh Dave and I came back to a busy week of work, then a wonderful visit from my Dad. He and Jan are planning to move back to Minnesota to our delight!! Shyla, Josh and Raleigh came for the weekend also so we had fun remembering the olden days!! Do you know what happens when you get a bunch of men together?? Lots of big buck, big fish stories and boy was it flying at our house!! I will share with you a few pictures that were taken with Corey's camera because for some reason the xD card for my camera won't read in my computer. I hope it's temporary.

These are a few pictures taken by Corey when he visited Shyla, Josh and Raleigh the weekend before Dad came to visit.

We are all very excited about Dad and Jan moving closer, especially the boys. Lots of plans in the works for ice fishing!!

Hello to everyone!!

I made it home finally!!! And it seems I hit the ground running. Des Moines was great!! Very nice people, great food. If I wasn't so happy with living in Minnesota I would move to Des Moines. I guess the mid west nice applies to more than Minnesota. My flight home was awful. My 9:20 flight was delayed three times before it was canceled at 11pm at night. 26 people with no place to go. 4 were quite elderly and confused. About 8 of us decided to stick together and after much negotiating got rebooked for Duluth, a hotel for the night and 2 meal vouchers. We met for breakfast, shuttled to the airport and flew into Duluth where we waited another 90 minutes for our luggage. From there we were transported by Taxi (2 1992 Dodge Caravans) to Hibbing. It was -30 when we pulled into Hibbing airport at 3:30 Sunday afternoon. I had to work the next 5 days. It was a long week to say the least. 3 people had quit since I had left. My apologies for not blogging sooner.

Good Morning all you superbowl fans!! It has taken me a week to figure out that I can blog from anywhere thanks to Shyla, not that I've really had the time. My flight into Des Moines was uneventfull. I was picked up by the dialysis units biomed guy Doyle who I found out loves pheasant hunting too and has an English setter like Dave and Barbs dog Mic. Only he has a breed that has been breed not to have long hair on the legs and tail. Anyway, I got checked into my very nice hotelroom on the 1st floor and got settled in. The first week there was a farm convention going on so the hotel was packed with Farmers. I met a really interesting couple, an 82 year old german guy and his 55 yr old daughter. This man had researched and now sells to farmers the halogen bulb. My first day at work was like learning to walk or write again and I felt like I was in over my head. The second day was worse, then every day got a little bit better. And by Saturday it was fine. My poor feet are not used to 12 hr days though so I've had to pay extra attention to them every night. rinsing out my inserts and soaking my feet. I have today off which I've devoted to eating a huge breakfast which I've not had since my arrival since I have to be up at 0245 to be there and on the floor by 0430. I would like to get a nap in sometime and of course the superbowl tonight. I also met a gal who is an archetect who I'm goin out to breakfast with. Her name is Carolyn. The folks I've met at work are all very different. There's pasqual from Sudan Africa. He and his wife came here 6 yrs ago when things got ugle there. His wife is going back for the first time since they came to visit family. He of course is worried for her. His hopes that the US would help are fading with the upcoming elections. Then there's Mike. He also is a 40 year old patient care tech who has also been a reservist for 25 of those years. He has also been to Iraq twice and very proud of it. A very hard worker. Amanda is 5 weeks away from having her second child. I could go on. Thje people I've met make the being away from home worth it and I havn't even told you about the cool patient stories. Enough for now, I will try and blog this week. This computer room is soooo hot that I can't stay in here for long. I'm hoping to use that as an excuse for poor grammar...Love you all...Wanda

Well, I'm off to Des Moines Iowa early tomorrow morning out of Hibbing. Wish me luck. There are 75 patients in this clinic which is in the Hospital. My hotel is the Holiday Inn right across the street and there is a good restaurant within plus a pool, etc. While I'm there I will be thinking about that roaring fire Dave will have burning.

There really is no excuse for me not blogging. I should be as good at it as Shyla is. One reason is I forgot my camera when I went to work in Superior so I kicked myself every afternoon coming back across the Bong Bridge as the sum was setting. The sky was the unrealistic pick color behind the dirty color of Duluth. Instead of just working the 4 10 hour days I ended up working Friday too. So I was beat by the time I got home. 2 days off and back to work Mon in my own unit.

I work in Eveleth tomorrow, off Thursday and in the Duluth unit Friday and Sat. I -13 right now. Supposed to be even colder by the weekend. I did get over to see the boys Sunday. Sam is not only walking but trying to run! I'm sure to catch up with his brothers. Maybe I'll get over there today to get some pictures so I'll have photo's to blog.

good Morning. I will be working in Superior's out patient dialysis clinic Mon - Thurs this week and if the hotel I will be staying in has a computer I will try and post otherwise I won't be able to keep in touch other than by the phone in my room which I don't know yet. I finally saw the new year come in!! I'm usually asleep by 10 but this year I made it!!. Dave fell asleep in the chair around 1130 and that's still pretty good for him. He saw the East Coast bring in the new year. Dave, Barb and the boys came over till around 1100. That was fun.

Dave, Barb and Tyler went out to cut and collect wood for their wood stove. Dave Sr. was helping a good friend put in garage doors. Ryan and DJ were taking a break from spearing so i snatched these pictures of the boys.

Then after DJ and Ryan left for round 2 of spearing and after many attempts to capture Sam walking I finally captured a few steps. But due to the heavy traffic it won't let me up load the video. I will keep trying

This is Kitty. She's 10. This shed has been a place she goes to in the summer for a nap and in the winter to hunt for mice or to sleep in when she's stuck outside for the night. Three days ago this is where she was when the weather was a nice 25 degrees out. After calling and calling she stayed there for the night. Day 2 the weather was still a nice 20 degree's. After calling and coaxing Kitty still chose not to come down. That night the temps got down to the teens.

Dave and I had a great time with Josh, Shyla, Raleigh and Josh's mom Deb this past weekend. Not only did we have the best turkey I've ever had but we also celebrated Raleighs 1st birthday! Pictures to follow. The weather tried to deter us but we prevailed. Josh and Dave spent a little bit of time shoveling off the deck but mainly using the snow blower. We had an interesting drive home but made it in time to see the vikings beat the Lions!! GO VIKINGS!!!!!

What a nice little drive to Fargo we had. I got off work at noon and we were on the road by 1pm. There's a little store in a town in called Aekley that always has something funny displayed on their property. This year they had a blow-up doll on a floaty raft in the middle of the pond next to them. Here's a couple of pictures.

I wore my winter boots and coat for the first time this morning so it must be winter. Dave and I will be heading to Fargo to celebrate Raleighs 1st birthday. A year already!! What a beautiful afternoon this turned out to be! Now that the game is out of the way I can focus on some banana bread and tuna caserole. A request from Corey and Ryan. Good Morning. It's another good day to curl up in front of the fireplace and watch tow football games in a row. I just hope the Viking can do it to the Giants (I think hats who they are playing. Another Thanksgiving under our belts..literally! My Dad used to say just before carving the turkey, "I wonder what the poor people are doing". I always wondered why he said that.
